Founded in 1559 by Jean Calvin, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) is dedicated to teaching, research and dialogue with society.
Its domains of excellence in research include life sciences (molecular biology, bio-informatics), physics of elementary particles, and astrophysics. UNIGE is also host and co-host to seven National Centres of Competence in Research: Frontiers in Genetics, MaNEP, PlanetS, SwissMap, Chemical Biology, Synaptic Bases of Mental Diseases and LIVES-Overcoming vulnerabilities in a life course perspective.

- From the Geneva Central Station "Cornavin" take tram no. 15 (towards Palettes) and get off at the "Uni Mail" stop.
- From the airport take bus no. 5 (towards Thonex - Vallard) and get off at the Geneva Central Station "Cornavin" stop. Take tram no. 15 (towards Palettes) and get off at the "Uni Mail" stop.

Geneva Transport Card
When check in, visitors will receive the Geneva Transport Card which enables them to use public transport - buses, trams, taxi-boats (Mouettes) - free of charge during the entire duration of their stay.
Free ticket at the airport
Visitors can retrieve an 80-minute ticket in the airport baggage hall for a free bus or train ride to Geneva.

How to get to Geneva
Perfectly located in the heart of Europe, Geneva is easily accessible by air, rail and road.
- Airplane
Geneva airport, located 4 kilometers from the city, is easily reachable by public transport: train and bus; taxi or shuttle.
Train journey between the Airport and central railway station in the city (Gare Cornavin) takes 6 minutes, bus to downtown takes about 20 minutes.
- Rail
Gare Cornavin, Geneva's Central Railway Station, is only 1 stop by tram or 5 minutes walking to the very city center (Bel-Air). From here you can get a connection to any other Swiss or European city. Online timetable SBB.
- Car
Travelling to Geneva by car is easy thanks to a well-developed network of roads.
The speed limit on Swiss motorways is 120km/h, and that of urban motorways between 60 and 100 km/h. There is a toll to pay (CHF 40) for the use of most motorways.
